PB & J Anyone?

Last week in reading class we were talking about the steps in a process so as a writing activity I had the class write the process for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  Then on Thursday we tested out those steps by making a PB & J sandwich by following our partner's directions.  Some of the students successfully wrote the process but others had to eat the sandwich in two parts because their partner forgot to write the step - put the two slices of bread together.  Others had to get the peanut butter out with the knife but spread it with their fingers because their partner simply wrote - spread the peanut butter instead of - get the peanut butter out of the jar with a knife and then spread it.  Overall, it was a success and I think the students learned how specific you need to be when it comes to writing.

Spirit Week

PJ Day
The class had a lot of fun today sleeping in and coming to class in their PJ's.  It was smart thinking on the high school to have this day on a Monday so the kids could catch up on some extra ZZZZ's they probably missed over the weekend.

Grease Lightening Day
A day devoted to my all time favorite movie, how did I get so lucky!  My sisters and I use to watch this movie over and over when we were little so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a class picture to document this day.

Starbase 2011

Our 5th grade class has been accepted into Starbase again this year. This is a program for math and science that is taught at the Air National Guard sight at Forbes Air Base in Topeka. The students will wear their red Starbase shirts each day, which they will receive  on their first day at the base. We will be leaving school at 8:15 each day so please make sure your child isn't late on those days or they will get left behind.  They also need to bring a sack lunch each day. We will send out more info as we get closer.

Dates -

My First Days at Jackson Heights

I was surprised to learn that on the first day the teachers do a routine at the assembly in front of the student body, my cheer leading experience really kicked in there.  Everyone here has been so nice and willing to help me whenever needed.  The first few days of school went well and I'm looking forward to many more great days to come.
