What an Awesome Week!
What a great week to be in the Fifth Grade. The class went to the FFA Pumpkin Patch on Monday. After coming up with several ideas we decided our pumpkin was going to be a Minion from Despicable Me.
Thursday was our class Halloween Party. Towards the end of the day we found out that our pumpkin took first place!
On Friday the exciting news kept coming. We had been working hard all month collecting box tops. Our goal was to collect 1,000, unfortunately we came up a little short with 977. But it was enough to win 1st place in a JHES competition and we won the ice cream party!

We just completed a writing assignment entitled Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and I'm very pleased with the results. First each student brainstormed 20 interesting descriptive words. After that they came up with 3 foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Then the writing began and they produced some amazing work. Check out a few samples of their work here -
Sausage rocketing from the sky,
Down pour of Pepsi,
Sugary syrup drizzled from the sky,and
Gross brussel sprouts shot down like bullets.

A Busy First Month
The 2013-2014 school year is underway and we have been in school for almost one month! The 5th grade class has been keeping busy in the classroom, some of the things include -
Reading - We are currently broke up into three novel groups and are reading One Crazy Summer, The Witches, and The BFG.
Math - The 5th grade class just started working on the Multiplication Unit in math. Some students might need some practice using flash cards.
Writing - We are finishing up our first topic, Ideas, in 6-Trait Writing.
Social Studies - The class just finished a research project on Native American tribes in North America.
So far we have had a great start to the year and hopefully we will continue this success throughout the months to come.

Descriptive Paragraphs
One rusted Ford truck is parked by two palm trees. The truck with the people surrounding it
is in front of an amazing seashore with the palm trees supporting a banner that
reads History Day. An awesome guy is
lying down acting cool with fantastic sunglasses, a leather jacket, and high
tops from the 80’s beside a truck. A man in the creative matador suit and in a sombrero
is standing in front of the Ford truck. There’s a hideous gypsy woman standing
in the bed of the truck and reaching for the sky. Mrs. Howel is in the bed of the truck by the
gypsy acting classy with a fabulous dress and purse.

Today is History Day
and we are going to a Hawaiian beach to have an awesome party. We will be
dressed up as famous historians at the beach party and so will all of our
friends that are going. We are going to
play challenging games and try to win the best costume prize. You win a free hotel ticket to the fabulous Holiday Inn if you have the
best costume. We will try different
kinds of delicious food at the party. We
will have a fantastic time celebrating History Day.

Today’s the
day, History day so we took a kooky picture. The picture has a bunch of friends
at an amusing beach. It stars 4 people
in costumes, one is in a beautiful peacock dress another is in an old 80‘s
leather jacket, he lookes like Danny off of Grease. Then the other one looks
like a Matador in a bedazzled sombrero and the other looks like a tacky, rich
lady. They all were around an antique 1982 Chevy. The truck is in between two
fantastic palm trees. The trees are incredibly tall with green leaves.

Uncle Phil, the matador bought a shiny,
stylish green truck. He brought along a nephew who was wearing a sombrero and nieces
who were wearing dresses which wanted Phil to take them on a speedy ride in the
truck. While he was driving home on I-85 from History Day he blew a seal in the
gasket and he popped the new rubbery tire. While stranded on I-85 he got out of
the truck and fell on his knees then burst into tears and called his sister to
come pick all of them up. His sister was there in the flash. She took them home
and told Phil they could fix it later.

Today is the fantastic
History Day; it is when people from around the world dress up as historic figures.
The wonderful people are a cowboy, an eighties girl, and also wealthy people.
The calm citizens dressed up as wealthy people are wearing dresses and the eighties people are wearing leather
jackets with slick back hair. The cowboy wears cowboy a hat and chaps. It is amazing to see what everybody dresses up
as. It is also pretty awesome to see what the people have done for our world.
History day is pretty epic to see, so try it one day.

The
flabbergasted matador, Flapsy, Fonzy, and a rich lady were invited to the History
Day Marathon. The pretty rich lady dressed amazing on History Day by wearing
white fur around her neck. Also the matador wears a funky hat because he just
wrestled a bull. The Flapsy lady is wearing a incredible crazy feather up in
her hair. Fonzy is acting cool and wearing a black biker jacket and blue
sunglasses. They all were recognized at the event.

Once there was an exciting history
day parade in Honolulu, Hawaii. Along for the ride was a flapper, a rich lady
from the 80’s, the famous Elvis Presley, and a matador. On the way to the beach
the rusty monster truck took control.
Flapper wasn’t so flappy when it took them to the stinky pizza parlor.
Then the matador ordered a smelly cheese
pizza. They all enjoyed the pizza except flapper. Once they got out of the
parlor, flapper passed out because of the nasty smell. When they were done they all had a joyful
day.

People are traveling to history day in a rusty sorrowful
pickup. The people are a crazy girl in a floppy dress, a rich fancy woman, a
matador that wrestles bulls, and a guy named Fonzie from the seventies. Then
the tiny pickup broke down in the middle of nowhere. They were gloomy until
they remembered that they had a jack, and a spare tire. The only person that
knew how to replace the popped tire was the decorative women, in the beautiful
dress. She then fainted, because her gown was greasy and Fonzie said “Throw her
in the back.” At last the epic group was on their way. Finally the fantastic
group arrived at the History Day Festival, and the wealthy women woke up. Then
they had a terrific time at the festival.

Four hilarious folks are dressed up as famous Americans on
history day. All four of them are dressed up as famous people from the 70’s and
80’s. They’re dressed up as a flapper, a matador, and the famous guy laying
down, with the rich lady from the 80’s. They’re venturing to a historic
convention on Halloween. They’re cruising in a Ford 350 XL to the gathering.
When they got to the convention they were greeted by their friends and went to
the cafeteria to gobble lunch. When they were done devouring lunch they
galloped to the Indian part of the convention. After they finished at the
Indian part they went home and they dozed off to sleep.
